Welcome to the Integrated Water and Wastewater Master Planning site for Valencia County, New Mexico. The planning process is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2008.
What is the Water and Wastewater Master Plan Project?
The goal of the Master Plan Project is to develop a 40-year plan for managing water resources in Valencia County.
The Water and Wastewater Master Plan Project is:
- An answer to:
- “How do we assure sustainable water and wastewater services to a growing county?”
- A basis for funding requests:
- Regional collaborative efforts increase the potential for obtaining funding.
- The master plan provides a rationale for making specific capital improvement project requests.
The Master Plan Project is not:
- A plan for the County to take over water or wastewater systems.
- A total infrastructure plan; it focuses on water and wastewater.
- A plan to rehabilitate or fix present water infrastructure.
- A way to address specific water rights adjudication.
- A guarantee of future funding for recommended projects; but does provide a basis for funding requests and some funding is available to begin implementing the plan.
Public Outreach is Essential
Public participation in the planning process is essential to developing a plan that reflects the needs and values of the whole community. The planning process includes:
- A public conversation about community values and plans
- Focus group meetings with individual groups
- Facilitated area meetings for inter-community dialogue
If you would like to participate, contact Tim Karpoff at <planners@valenciawaterplan.org>.
